Hamilton financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)
Yes, Hamilton funds Ghanaian students, but it is not need-blind for non-US citizens, so your need for aid may be weighed when you are admitted. If you are admitted having applied for aid, Hamilton meets your full demonstrated need for all four years, and the CSS Profile is due by 19 November 2026 for Early Decision I or 15 January 2027 otherwise.
Does Hamilton give financial aid to Ghanaian students?
Yes, but Hamilton is need-aware for you. It says it is "not need-blind in admission for non-U.S. citizens". Its aid FAQ explains why: the budget for international students is not limitless, so need may be weighed at admission to protect its ability to meet full need.
If you are admitted, the commitment is clear:
- Full need met for four years. Hamilton meets full demonstrated need, including for international students who applied for aid and showed need at admission.
- Scholarship and a campus job. Hamilton says most awards are a Hamilton College Scholarship plus campus work, about 10 hours a week.
- Travel counted. The budget Hamilton uses to build your award includes books and travel as well as billed costs.
What this means for you: needing aid makes Hamilton harder to get into than it is for a family that can pay. Apply if your record is strong, and keep need-blind schools on your list.
What are Hamilton's aid rules and deadlines?
Hamilton meets full need for those it admits, and its aid deadlines fall a few days to two weeks after the application deadlines. For students entering in autumn 2027, as published in October 2026:
- Aid for internationals: need-aware admission.
- Need met: full demonstrated need, for all four years.
- Aid forms: CSS Profile, plus IDOC documents if requested.
- Certification of Finances: required from every international applicant, aid or no aid.
- Early Decision I: application by 15 November 2026, aid by 19 November 2026.
- Early Decision II: application by 4 January 2027, aid by 15 January 2027.
- Regular Decision: application by 4 January 2027, aid by 15 January 2027.
- Application fee: waived automatically for first-generation students, and on request where a family's circumstances warrant it.
- Tests: SAT and ACT optional.
- English test: required for non-native speakers, unless your school teaches in English or you are granted a waiver.
- Interview: optional but encouraged, by video.
Check each line on Hamilton's site before you apply.
What would my family actually pay?
Your family pays what Hamilton calculates it can afford. Hamilton covers the rest with its scholarship and a campus job. The full price for 2026-27 is a comprehensive fee of $95,250:
- Tuition: $75,210
- Housing: $10,540
- Food: $8,750
- Student activity fee: $750
Hamilton estimates up to $800 for books, up to $1,000 for personal costs and up to $1,800 for travel. With those, the year comes to about $98,850.
Hamilton's aid estimate page links to its net price calculator. It tells non-Canadian international students to read its international aid page as well. Our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana shows how to convert cedi figures.
How do I apply for aid from Ghana?
Tick the aid box, file the CSS Profile by your round's aid deadline, and complete the Certification of Finances in your applicant portal. Hamilton may then ask for documents through IDOC, the College Board's upload service.
Every international applicant completes the Certification of Finances, whether or not they ask for aid. Our guide to the Certification of Finances explains how to fill it in from Ghana.
If your parents earn without payslips, from trading or farming, report their real yearly income and keep notes on how you worked it out. If IDOC asks for tax returns your parents do not file, our guide to IDOC from Ghana covers what to send. For anything else, check with Hamilton's aid office at finaid@hamilton.edu.
What is Hamilton looking for?
Hamilton aims to admit "the most able and promising mix of students". It weighs academic achievement and intellectual potential first. It also looks for leadership, commitment outside class and contribution to a community, rather than a long list of activities.
For a Ghanaian applicant, depth beats length. Two or three activities you led or grew, explained well, say more than ten clubs. Our guide to the Common App activities list shows how to write them up.
What should I know about applying from Ghana?
Three things matter for a Ghanaian applicant.
English may already be covered. Hamilton accepts study at a secondary school where English is the main language of teaching. You can also request a waiver in your portal. If you do test, Hamilton wants official scores: IELTS 7.5 or Duolingo 130 at least, or the TOEFL minimum on its page.
The SAT is optional. Hamilton considers you fully without it. Send a score only if it strengthens your file. Our guide to whether you need the SAT helps you decide.
Interviews are worth taking. Hamilton offers optional virtual interviews and says slots fill quickly near deadlines. Book one early. You can send an InitialView or Vericant recording instead.
Hamilton's pages do not say when it needs final results from WASSCE students. WASSCE results usually come out in August. If you are admitted, ask the admission office how to send them.
Should I apply to Hamilton?
Yes, if your grades are strong and you want a small college that keeps its aid steady for four years. Hamilton is need-aware, so treat it as one reach among several.
Balance it with schools that are need-blind for internationals. Our guide to colleges that meet full need lists more.
What should I do first?
Run Hamilton's net price calculator with your parents this week, and book a virtual interview. Then choose your round. Early Decision I closes on 15 November 2026, with the CSS Profile due by 19 November. If you are not sure Hamilton is your first choice, aim for 4 January 2027.
If you would like help with the CSS Profile and Certification of Finances for Hamilton and the rest of your list, our Scholarship and Aid Sprint is built for that.
