Personal Statement Studio

From a blank page to an essay that sounds like you.

The Personal Statement Studio is for students handling their own applications who want the essay to be the strong part rather than the part they dread. Over four working sessions you go from first ideas to a finished statement, with written feedback on every draft in between.

What is included

Every step below is part of the price. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Session one: finding the story

Ninety minutes of questions about your life, not your CV. Most students arrive wanting to write about a trip or a prize and leave with something far better that they had dismissed as ordinary.

  2. A written brief

Within two days you get a short document: the three strongest directions we heard, what each one would need to prove, and the risks in each. You choose the one to write.

  3. Session two: structure before prose

We build the shape of the essay together, paragraph by paragraph, before you write a full draft. Fixing structure at this stage saves rewriting a polished essay that is pointed the wrong way.

  4. Unlimited written feedback

Send drafts whenever you have one. Every draft comes back with comments inside 48 hours on weekdays. Most students send four or five between sessions; some send ten, and that is fine.

  5. Session three: the line edit

We work through the draft together on a call, sentence by sentence, cutting what is not earning its place. You make the edits yourself so the voice stays yours.

  6. Session four: the final read

A last pass for the opening, the ending, the word count and the small mistakes that a tired writer stops seeing. You leave with a version ready to paste into the application.

  7. A reusable version

We leave you with notes on which parts of the statement can be adapted for supplemental essays and scholarship applications, so the work carries further than one form.

Who this is for

A good fit if ✓

  • You are filing your own applications and want help with the writing only
  • You have a deadline at least six weeks away
  • You are willing to write. We coach and edit, we do not draft for you
  • You have a story you are not sure how to tell, or too many and cannot choose
  • English is a language you write in comfortably, even if it is not your first

Not the right time if ✗

  • You want to hand it over and get a finished essay back without sitting in the sessions. We write with you, which takes your time
  • You also need help with school lists, aid forms and scholarships. Take the Full Journey instead
  • Your deadline is inside two weeks. Four sessions and real revision will not fit

If it is not the right time, say so on the call and we will tell you when to come back. We would rather turn work down than take money for work that cannot help you.

Timeline

Built around a November or January deadline. Start later and we will compress it, though some scholarship deadlines cannot move.

  1. Week 1
Session one, then your written brief two days later. You choose a direction by the end of the week.
  2. Week 2
Session two on structure. Your first full draft follows, usually four or five days later.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4
Drafts and written feedback, back and forth. This is where most of the work happens.
  4. Week 5
Session three, the line edit, and the revision that follows it.
  5. Week 6
Session four and the final read. The statement is finished, with at least two weeks in hand before a November deadline.

What we need from you

We do the work, but we cannot do it without these. Missing documents are the most common reason an application runs late.

From you

  • Two or three hours a week for writing, outside the sessions
  • Drafts returned within the days we agree, so the schedule holds
  • Your prompt and word count, if the school sets one
  • Anything you have already written, even a rough attempt
  • Honesty in session one. The essay is only as good as what you tell us

From your parents

  • Nothing, beyond paying the fee if they are the ones paying
  • A quiet hour for each session, if you share a room at home
  • Patience with the first draft. It is meant to be rough
  • No rewriting of your essay. It has to sound like you, not like an adult

Questions about this service

Will you write the essay for me?

We write it with you. We ask the questions, shape the structure, draft alongside you and edit hard, and you are in every session while that happens. What we will not do is take the brief away and send back a finished essay you had no part in. Admissions readers see thousands a year, and an essay with no trace of the student in it is easy to spot.

How many supplemental essays are included?

None. This service is the personal statement only. Supplementals are quoted separately, at $60 each or $220 for a set of five, and we will tell you on the call roughly how many your school list will need.

What if I still do not like it at the end?

Tell us during the process rather than at the end, and we will change direction. Unlimited written feedback means exactly that: if the fourth draft is wrong, we work on a fifth. If you feel after session two that this is not working, we will refund what is left and part on good terms.

Can you help with a UCAS statement rather than US?

Yes. UCAS wants a different essay: academic, focused on the subject, with very little of the personal narrative a US statement needs. We write to whichever system you are applying through, and to both if you are applying to both.

What if I need the school list and aid help too?

Then this is the wrong service and the Full Journey costs less than buying the pieces separately. We will say so on the call rather than sell you both.

Bring us the blank page.

The first call is free. Tell us what you are thinking of writing about and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth the essay.
