Wellesley financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)
Yes, Wellesley meets 100 percent of calculated need for every admitted international student who applied for aid during admission, but it is not need-blind for students who are not US citizens or permanent residents. It funds a limited number of international aid awards, so admission is highly competitive for Ghanaian applicants who need aid.
Does Wellesley give financial aid to Ghanaian students?
Yes, but asking for aid makes admission harder. Wellesley says it is not need-blind for students who are not US citizens or permanent residents. It has the resources for a limited number of international aid awards, so admission is highly competitive for internationals who apply for aid.
If you are admitted, Wellesley meets 100 percent of your calculated need. That holds for every admitted international student who applied for aid during the admission process.
Wellesley is a women's college. It asks applicants to read its gender policy before applying.

What would my family actually pay?
Your family pays what Wellesley calculates it can afford, and aid meets the rest of your calculated need. For 2026-27, Wellesley's billed costs are $96,136: tuition $72,570, housing $12,020, meals $11,186 and a student activity fee of $360. It adds $800 for books and $1,250 for personal costs.
One gap matters for a family in Ghana. Wellesley says its cost of attendance for international students does not include travel. Budget for your flights to Boston yourself.
Wellesley's free tuition for families earning $200,000 or less, from autumn 2027, is for US students only. Run Wellesley's net price calculator with your family's figures in dollars, then read our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana to check the result.
How do I apply for aid from Ghana?
Say on your application that you want aid, then complete three steps:
- Financial Aid Intent Form. Wellesley opens it in your applicant portal after it receives your application.
- CSS Profile. Wellesley's international aid page says fee waivers are available on request.
- Financial documents. Wellesley tells you what to submit and contacts you during the process.
Wellesley's pages do not list the documents for parents who file no tax return in Ghana. When it asks, explain how each parent earns, and send what you have: an employer's letter, business records or a statement of income. Our guide to the CSS Profile from Ghana covers what families usually send.
What is Wellesley looking for?
A strong academic record, with real evidence of writing and quantitative skill. Wellesley reviews each application as a whole and says it looks closely at demonstrated writing and quantitative skills, whether or not you send test scores. About 45 percent of its enrolling first-years applied without tests.
For a Ghanaian applicant, that means your Core Mathematics, Elective Mathematics and science grades are where Wellesley sees that skill. Your two essays show your writing directly, so draft them early.
What should I know about applying from Ghana?
Three things matter for a Ghanaian applicant.
You do not need an English test. Wellesley strongly recommends one only if English is not your native language and you have had fewer than four years in an English-language curriculum. Most SHS students are taught in English throughout.
Your WASSCE results may arrive after Wellesley's deadline. Wellesley asks enrolling students for a final transcript by 6 July 2027. WAEC usually releases WASSCE results in August. If you are admitted, ask the admissions office early how it wants your results. Our guide to applying before WASSCE results explains the timing.
Regular Decision needs mid-year grades. Wellesley asks for them by 10 February 2027. Ask your school to send your SHS 3 first-term results in good time.
Should I apply to Wellesley?
Yes, if you are a strong student who wants a women's college, and as one reach on a wider list. Limited international aid means no Ghanaian applicant who needs aid should count on admission. There is no application fee, so the cost of trying is mainly your time.
