Vassar financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)

The short answer

Yes, Vassar meets the full demonstrated need of every admitted student who applies for aid with their application, Ghanaians included, but it is need-aware when reviewing international applicants. Vassar requires the CSS Profile with no fee waiver and no ISFAA alternative, and international students who do not apply for aid at the start can never receive Vassar funding later.

Does Vassar give financial aid to Ghanaian students?

Yes, but asking for aid can count against you in admission. Vassar says it is need-aware when reviewing applications from international students. It is need-blind only for first-year applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents.

Once you are admitted, the promise is strong. Vassar meets the full demonstrated need of every admitted student who applied for aid with their admission application, for all four years.

For a Ghanaian applicant who needs aid, that means you compete for a limited number of funded places. It also means the money is there if you win one.

What are Vassar's aid rules and deadlines?

Need-aware admission, full need met, and the CSS Profile with no alternative. Here are the details for students entering in autumn 2027, as published on Vassar's pages in October 2026:

  • Aid for internationals: need-aware. Full demonstrated need met for admitted students who apply for aid on time.
  • Aid forms: CSS Profile and documents through IDOC. No ISFAA, and no Profile fee waiver codes for internationals.

  • Early Decision II: application and aid forms by 1 January 2027.
  • Regular Decision: application by 1 January 2027, aid forms by 1 February 2027.
  • Application fee: $65, or a fee waiver.

What would my family actually pay?

Your family pays what Vassar calculates it can afford, and aid meets the rest of your demonstrated need. For 2026-27, Vassar lists tuition of $76,140, on-campus housing and food of $19,800 and mandatory fees of $1,020. It tells students to budget about $2,250 more for books, personal costs and travel.

That is roughly $99,210 before aid. Vassar says its average scholarship is $63,033. Your family's figure depends on its income and assets.

Run Vassar's net price calculator with your family's figures in dollars. Our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana shows how to convert cedi amounts and read the result.

How do I apply for aid from Ghana?

File the CSS Profile, then upload your parents' documents to IDOC, the College Board's document service. IDOC emails you instructions once the Profile is processed. For 2026-27, Vassar's international checklist asks for:

  • Parents' tax returns for the most recent year filed in Ghana, translated into English if needed.
  • A statement of earnings from each parent's employer, showing annual wages, bonuses and benefits such as housing or car allowances. Say whether the figure is before or after tax.
  • A business or farm supplement if your parents run a business or farm.
  • The Certification of Finances.

Separated or divorced parents each complete their own Profile. Vassar's pages do not say what to send for a parent who files no return and has no employer, such as a market trader. Ask the aid office before the deadline. Our guide to the Certification of Finances explains that form.

What is Vassar looking for?

Strong academics in a demanding programme, then personal qualities. Vassar says it weighs your school record and your strengths, motivation and potential, as shown in essays, recommendations and community involvement.

It gives special attention to the breadth, depth and rigour of your last two years. For a Ghanaian applicant, that means SHS 2 and SHS 3 grades matter most. Vassar adds that its community values thinkers and creativity, so show how you work through ideas as well as what you achieved.

What should I know about applying from Ghana?

Three things matter for a Ghanaian applicant.

You probably do not need an English test. Vassar asks for one only if English was not the main language of instruction for your last three years of secondary school. Most SHS students are taught in English.

Your WASSCE will be required. Vassar says national exam results should come with your transcript and that terminal exams will be required for enrolment. WAEC usually releases WASSCE results in August, so if you are admitted, ask Vassar early how to send them. Our guide to applying before WASSCE results explains the timing.

Transcripts must be complete and certified in English. If any record is in another language, send the signed original and a certified translation.

Should I apply to Vassar?

Yes, if your grades are among the strongest in your school, and as one reach on a wider list. Need-aware admission means no Ghanaian applicant who needs aid should count on it. If you are admitted, Vassar meets your full need for four years.

Our guide to need-blind and need-aware admission explains how to balance colleges like Vassar with need-blind ones.

What should I do first?

Run Vassar's net price calculator with your parents this week. Then ask each parent's employer for a statement of earnings now, so it is ready before your Profile deadline.
