Trinity College financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)

The short answer

Yes, Trinity College in Hartford gives need-based aid to Ghanaian students and says it will meet the full, demonstrated need of every student it admits. But it is need-aware, so asking for aid can affect admission, and need-based aid for international students goes to a limited number; file the CSS Profile by 15 November (Early Decision I) or 15 January (Early Decision II and Regular Decision).

Does Trinity College give financial aid to Ghanaian students?

Yes, but admission is need-aware and aid for internationals is limited. Trinity College, a liberal arts college in Hartford, Connecticut, gives need-based aid to international students. It also says that aid is available to a limited number of them.

Here is what that means for you:

  • Need-aware admission. Trinity says it is need-aware in its admissions practice. Asking for a large package can count in the decision, because only a limited number of international students receive need-based aid.
  • Full need met once admitted. Trinity tells international applicants: "If you are admitted to Trinity, we will meet your full, demonstrated need." Aid can include scholarships, grants and loans.
  • Merit aid exists. Trinity says it combines merit scholarships with need-based aid, and test scores can be sent for merit consideration.

What are Trinity College's aid rules and deadlines?

Tick the aid box on your application and file the CSS Profile by your round's deadline. Here are the rules for students entering in autumn 2027, as published on Trinity's pages in October 2026:

  • Aid for internationals: need-based, to a limited number of students.
  • Admission: need-aware.
  • Need met: full demonstrated need of every admitted student.
  • Aid form: CSS Profile, code 3899. It opens in early October.
  • Early Decision I: 15 November, CSS Profile due the same day. Decision in mid-December.
  • Early Decision II: 15 January, CSS Profile due the same day. Decision in mid-February.
  • Regular Decision: 15 January, CSS Profile due the same day. Decision in late March.
  • Application fee: none through the Common App.
  • Tests: SAT and ACT optional.
  • English test: Duolingo, IELTS or TOEFL, with a waiver route for Ghana.
  • Interview: not required, but strongly recommended.

Check each line on Trinity's site before you apply. Policies and dates can change from one cycle to the next.

What would my family actually pay?

What you pay depends on your family's income and assets, measured through the CSS Profile. Without aid, the price is high.

For 2026-27, Trinity lists charges of $96,480 for a first-year student on the Hartford campus: tuition $72,820, a general fee of $2,900, a student activity fee of $430, a standard room at $13,150 and the first-year meal plan at $7,180. Books, personal costs, health insurance and flights from Accra come on top.

Run Trinity's net price calculator with your family's real figures in dollars. Our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana shows how to convert cedi figures and read the result.

How do I apply for aid from Ghana?

Say you want aid on the Common App, then file the CSS Profile. For international students, Trinity asks for the Profile alone. The steps:

  1. Indicate on your admission application that you are applying for aid.
  2. File the CSS Profile with code 3899 by your round's deadline.
  3. If your parents are separated or divorced, the other parent files a Noncustodial Profile, started after your own Profile. If you cannot get their information, Trinity accepts a waiver request.
  4. Report unusual circumstances. Trinity will look again at your eligibility if your family has documented circumstances that affect what it can pay.

Trinity accepts the ISFAA, a paper alternative, only from students in Iran, North Korea and Sudan. From Ghana, the CSS Profile is the route.

Trinity's pages do not say what to send if your parents file no tax return, such as a trader paid in cash. Ask the financial aid office before your deadline.

What is Trinity College looking for?

Students who will use what Trinity offers. Trinity says it wants applicants who will explore the breadth of its academic programmes, make use of its city location and global reach, and contribute to the college community.

For a Ghanaian applicant, that means showing how you would take part. Name the courses and activities you would join, and point to what you already do: a debate team, a church youth group or work in the family business. Our guide to the why this college essay helps here.

What should I know about applying from Ghana?

Three things catch Ghanaian applicants out.

You may not need an English test. Trinity lists Ghana among the countries where four years of English-medium study, including your current year, can earn a waiver. You request it after you submit your application and transcript. If you take a test, Trinity has no cut-off, but it recommends Duolingo 130, IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 5.5 on the new scale.

Your WASSCE comes after the decision. Trinity expects your current-year grades as soon as they are available. WASSCE results usually come out in August, after a late-March decision. Send your SHS results and mocks, and ask admissions how it wants your WASSCE results if you are admitted.

Interviews help. Trinity strongly recommends one. Ask the admissions office whether you can interview online from Ghana.

Should I apply to Trinity College?

Yes, if you want a liberal arts college in a city and your record is strong, as one part of a wider list. It is free to apply through the Common App and the SAT is optional. Because admission is need-aware and international aid is limited, do not rely on it as your only funded option.

What should I do first?

Run Trinity's net price calculator with your parents this week. Then decide whether Early Decision I on 15 November is right for you. Early Decision is binding, so read our guide to Early Decision with financial aid first. If you are unsure, aim for 15 January.
