Davidson financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)
Yes, Davidson funds Ghanaian students and meets 100 percent of calculated need for those it admits, without loans, but admission is need-aware for anyone who is not a US citizen. Davidson's new tuition-free promise for families earning up to $175,000 covers US citizens and residents only, so a Ghanaian applicant competes for a limited international aid budget.
Does Davidson give financial aid to Ghanaian students?
Yes, but your need for aid can count in the admission decision. Davidson says it is need-aware for applicants who are not US citizens. Its aid for internationals is, in its own words, limited and competitive.
If you are admitted, Davidson meets 100 percent of your calculated need. It does this without loans, and it says that promise covers international students admitted as first-years.
You may have seen the July 2026 news that Davidson is going tuition-free for families earning up to $175,000. That applies only to US citizens living in the US and people with full US residency. It does not cover a family in Ghana.
What are Davidson's aid rules and deadlines?
Need-aware admission, full need met with no loans, and aid forms due on the same day as the application. Here are the details for students entering in autumn 2027, as published on Davidson's pages in October 2026:
- Aid for internationals: need-aware. Full calculated need met for admitted students, with no loans.
- Aid forms: the Financial Verification Form for every international applicant, then the CSS Profile or Davidson's alternative form.
- Early Decision I: application and aid forms by 15 November 2026. Decisions on 12 December.
- Early Decision II: application and aid forms by 4 January 2027. Decisions by 30 January.
- Regular Decision: application and aid forms by 11 January 2027. Decisions by 1 April.
- Application fee: none.
- Tests: SAT and ACT optional.
- English test: waived for students from a country where English is an official language.
- Interviews: none. An InitialView or Vericant video is strongly recommended but optional.

What would my family actually pay?
Your family pays what Davidson calculates it can afford, and grants cover the rest. For 2026-27, Davidson estimates the cost for a first-year international student at $95,995 before health insurance. That includes a $1,000 allowance for the first trip to campus. Health insurance adds $2,800.
The billed part for a first-year is $92,770: tuition $73,090, required fees $650, orientation fee $250, housing $9,220 and food $9,560.
Run Davidson's cost estimator with your family's income and assets converted to dollars. Our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana shows how to convert cedi figures and read the result.
How do I apply for aid from Ghana?
Fill in Davidson's Financial Verification Form first, then the CSS Profile or Davidson's alternative form. Every international applicant files the Verification Form, even one not asking for aid.
Which second form you file depends on what your family can pay:
- Your family can pay more than $5,000 a year: file the CSS Profile. Davidson does not waive its $25 fee.
- Your family can pay less than $5,000 a year: you get access to an alternative form on Davidson's admission portal, so no Profile fee.
For many Ghanaian families who need full aid, the free alternative form is the right route. Davidson's international aid page does not list the income documents it wants from parents who file no tax return. Ask the aid office what to send for a parent who trades or farms, and our guide to the CSS Profile from Ghana covers the usual evidence.
What is Davidson looking for?
A demanding course load and real depth outside class. Davidson says it pays particular attention to how difficult your course choices are and to the depth and breadth of your activities. Readers study each file, then discuss it in committee.
Davidson also says it considers demonstrated interest. For a Ghanaian applicant who cannot visit, that can mean a recorded InitialView or Vericant video and a "Why Davidson" essay that names specific things.
What should I know about applying from Ghana?
Two rules help a Ghanaian applicant, and one matters later.
You probably do not need TOEFL or IELTS. Davidson waives its English requirement for students from a country where English is an official language. English is Ghana's official language. If you do take a test, Davidson recommends IELTS 7, TOEFL iBT 100 or Duolingo 130.
There is no application fee and the SAT is optional. Davidson charges non-US citizens nothing to apply, and it is test-optional.
Your WASSCE results come after the decision. Davidson's pages do not set a date for final results. If you are admitted, ask the admissions office how it wants your WASSCE results when WAEC releases them, usually in August.
Should I apply to Davidson?
Yes, if you are a strong student who likes a small college, and as one reach on a wider list. Need-aware admission with a limited budget means no one should count on it. If you are admitted, though, the no-loan package is among the best an international student can get.
Early Decision is binding, so read our guide to Early Decision with financial aid before you choose it.
