Dartmouth financial aid for Ghanaian students (2026-27)
Yes, Dartmouth funds Ghanaian students on the same terms as Americans. Admission is need-blind for all applicants, including international students, and Dartmouth meets 100 percent of demonstrated need regardless of citizenship, with no loans expected. You file the CSS Profile and send your parents' income documents by 1 November 2026 for binding Early Decision or 1 February 2027 for Regular Decision.
Does Dartmouth give financial aid to Ghanaian students?
Yes, on the same terms as American students. Dartmouth extended need-blind admission to all international applicants from the Class of 2026, and it says it meets 100 percent of demonstrated need regardless of citizenship. All of its aid is based on need.
Two promises matter most for a Ghanaian family:
- Need-blind admission. Dartmouth says applicants are admitted without regard to financial circumstances, including international students.
- Full need met, with no loans expected. Dartmouth meets need with scholarship, grant and student employment. Its no-loan policy means you are not expected to borrow to meet your need.
What are Dartmouth's aid rules and deadlines?
Need-blind admission, full need met, and aid documents due with the early application. For students entering in autumn 2027, as published on Dartmouth's own pages in October 2026:
- Aid for internationals: need-blind admission, full need met.
- Loans: none expected; need is met with scholarship, grant and work.
- Aid forms: CSS Profile (Dartmouth code 3351) plus your parents' income and tax documents, or the ISFAA if the Profile fee is a serious hardship.
- Early Decision (binding): apply by 1 November 2026; aid documents due 1 November; decision in mid-December.
- Regular Decision: apply by 1 January 2027; aid documents due 1 February; decision in late March or early April.
- Application fee: waived if paying it would cause unusual financial hardship, with no disadvantage for asking.
- Tests: SAT, ACT or an approved alternative for schools outside the US (see below).
- English test: only if English is not your first language and your schooling has not been in English for at least two years.
- Interview: not required; optional alumni interviews where offered.
Check each line on Dartmouth's site before you apply. Policies and dates can change from one cycle to the next.
What would my family actually pay?
What you pay depends on your family's income and assets as Dartmouth assesses them. If you qualify for aid, Dartmouth's offer covers the gap between that contribution and the full cost.
The full price is large. For 2026-27, Dartmouth lists a total budget of $98,427: tuition $71,697, fees $2,157, housing $13,032, food $8,496, books $1,005 and personal costs $2,040. It lists health insurance at $5,216, a basic computer at $1,700 and a minimum travel allowance of $250 as additional expenses.
Dartmouth says aid for international students includes an allowance for travel to the US. It does not expect summer earnings from first-year international students, and asks for a $1,500 work contribution in later years.
Dartmouth's net price calculator says it is not designed for families living outside the US. Our guide to using a net price calculator from Ghana explains how to get a rough figure and what to ask the aid office.
How do I apply for aid from Ghana?
File the CSS Profile with Dartmouth's code 3351, then send your parents' income and tax documents directly to the financial aid office. Dartmouth uses IDOC only for parents in the US; families elsewhere send their documents straight to the aid office.
Dartmouth asks for signed copies of all pages of your parents' 2025 income tax statement for your country of residence. If your parents do not file a tax return in Ghana, Dartmouth's pages do not say what to send instead. Email financial.aid@dartmouth.edu early and ask.
If the CSS Profile fee is a serious hardship, Dartmouth accepts the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) instead, sent directly to the aid office. Our guide to the ISFAA and the CSS Profile explains the difference.
What is Dartmouth looking for?
Dartmouth reads every application as a whole. It says every student it admits brings something unique through their "combination of qualities, experiences, and point-of-view".
In practice, that means strong grades in the hardest subjects your school offers, and a clear sense of who you are outside class. For a Ghanaian applicant, work at home, in a family business or in your church belongs in your application. Our guide to the Common App activities list shows how to describe it.
What should I know about applying from Ghana?
Three things matter most for a Ghanaian applicant.
The SAT is the realistic route. Dartmouth lets students at schools outside the US meet its testing requirement with the SAT or ACT, three AP exams, predicted or final IB or A-level results, or final results from an equivalent national exam. WASSCE results arrive in August, after both deadlines, so most Ghanaian SHS students will need the SAT. Ask admissions whether a WASSCE you have already completed counts. See SAT test centres in Ghana.
Your final transcript is due in June. Dartmouth asks admitted students for a final transcript in June, before WASSCE results come out. If you are admitted, ask the admissions office how and when to send your WASSCE results.
Interviews are optional. Dartmouth says interviews are not required for any first-year applicant.
Dartmouth says its Class of 2028 came from 65 countries, and it calls its international community one of its most valuable resources.
Should I apply to Dartmouth?
Yes, if your record is among the strongest in your school, and as one part of a wider list. Admission is extremely competitive, so no one should count on it. Dartmouth is need-blind and meets full need, so the main cost of applying is your time.
Choose Early Decision only if Dartmouth is your clear first choice and your aid documents are ready by 1 November. Our guide to Early Decision with financial aid sets out the trade-off.
What should I do first?
Ask your parents for their 2025 income tax statement, or their income records if they do not file, this week. Then decide between binding Early Decision on 1 November and Regular Decision on 1 January.

Questions people ask
Is Dartmouth need-blind for international students?
Yes. Dartmouth says it practises need-blind admissions for all applicants, including international students, and meets 100 percent of the demonstrated need of every admitted student who applies for aid, regardless of citizenship.
Can I apply for Dartmouth aid without paying for the CSS Profile?
Yes. Dartmouth says international applicants for whom the CSS Profile fee is a serious financial hardship can submit the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) instead, directly to its financial aid office.
Does Dartmouth accept WASSCE instead of the SAT?
Possibly, but rarely in time. Dartmouth accepts final results from an equivalent national exam for students at schools outside the US, but WASSCE results arrive in August, after its deadlines. Most Ghanaian applicants will need the SAT or ACT.
