Türkiye Bursları for Ghanaian students (2026-27)

The short answer

Yes, Ghanaians can apply for Türkiye Bursları, the Turkish government's scholarship, which is open to citizens of all countries. You apply directly online, free, in a window that usually runs from 10 January to 20 February, before or after you finish SHS. Undergraduates must be under 21 with at least 70% (90% for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy), and winners get tuition, a dormitory, a monthly stipend, health insurance, a flight and a year of Turkish.

What is Türkiye Bursları?

It is the Turkish government's scholarship for international students, known in English as Türkiye Scholarships. It funds associate, bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees at Turkish universities, and it places you at a university as well as paying for it.

You apply directly, online and free of charge. There is no Ghana Scholarships Authority stage and no embassy nomination. Our overview of foreign government scholarships for Ghanaian undergraduates sets it beside the other schemes; this page goes into the detail.

Who can apply from Ghana?

Any Ghanaian who meets the scheme's academic and age rules. Türkiye Scholarships lists "citizens of all countries" as eligible, and accepts both graduates and students who will graduate before August of the current academic year.

For a bachelor's or associate degree, the published criteria are:

  • Age: under 21.
  • Grades: at least 70% overall.
  • Health sciences: at least 90% for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
  • Not eligible: Turkish citizens, people who have lost Turkish citizenship, and anyone already enrolled at a Turkish university at the level they are applying for.

Your SHS transcript shows letter grades, not percentages. Türkiye Scholarships does not publish a WASSCE conversion, so ask your school to show how your grades translate. If you are unsure whether you meet 70%, check with Türkiye Scholarships before you apply.

What does it cover?

Tuition and the main costs of living. Türkiye Scholarships lists:

  • Tuition at your placed university.
  • A monthly stipend: 6,500 TL for associate and bachelor's students.
  • Accommodation: undergraduates can stay in a dormitory for the whole degree, with the fee covered.
  • General health insurance.
  • A flight: a one-time ticket to Türkiye at the start, and home after graduation.
  • A one-year Turkish course at a university language centre (TÖMER).

The stipend figure is the one the site shows now. Prices in Türkiye move quickly, so check what 6,500 TL buys in your city before you rely on it.

When are the deadlines?

The general application window runs from 10 January to 20 February. That was the 2026 window, and the scheme's standing calendar gives the same months. For students starting in September 2027, expect this pattern:

  1. 10 January to 20 February 2027 (expected)

Online applications through the Türkiye Scholarships system.

  2. March to April 2027

    Applications are evaluated.

  3. April to June 2027

Shortlisted candidates sit a test and attend an interview.

  4. Early August 2027

    Results are announced.

  5. September 2027

    Scholars travel to Türkiye.

Türkiye Scholarships posted its 2026 announcement on 29 December 2025. Check its site from late December 2026 for the confirmed 2027 dates.

How do I apply?

Online, through the Türkiye Scholarships application system (TBBS), with your documents uploaded. In order:

  1. Choose your programmes. You can list up to 12 university and department choices. Check which are taught in Turkish and which in English.
  2. Gather your documents. You need a passport or ID, a photo taken in the last year, your diploma or temporary graduation certificate, and your transcript. Add national exam results if you have them, so your WASSCE results if they are out.
  3. Add test scores if your programme asks. Some programmes ask for an international exam such as the SAT, or a language test such as the TOEFL.
  4. Write your letter of intent. The expert committee reads it for your career goals and how well your choices fit together.
  5. Submit before 20 February and watch your email for an interview invitation.

Applications are free. Anyone who asks you for money to apply or to "secure" a place is not part of the scheme.

How does selection work?

In four stages. Türkiye Scholarships first checks your age, grades and documents. An expert committee then scores your academic record, interests, career goals, the consistency of your choices, your letter of intent and your social activities.

Shortlisted undergraduates sit a 60-minute test of 30 questions in mathematics, geometry and logic, with instructions in Turkish and English. On the same day they have a 15 to 30 minute face-to-face interview with academics and experts. Bring the originals of all your certificates to it.

A selection committee then makes the final list. The test favours students who are comfortable with core maths, so practise with the sample paper on the official site.

Should I apply alongside US universities?

Yes, if you would genuinely go to Türkiye. The window opens just after most US regular-decision deadlines in early January, so you can do both in SHS 3. Türkiye's results come in early August, well after US universities expect you to reply to their offers.

Decide in advance what you will do if a US offer and a Türkiye award both arrive. Our guide to which country gives the best chance helps you weigh them.

What should I do first?

Ask your school this term for a transcript that shows how your grades convert to a percentage. Then bookmark turkiyeburslari.gov.tr and check it in late December for the 2027 announcement.
